Why are we fundraising?
In memory of my father George Thomas, who died aged 89 in 2019. Age finally caught up with him, but he suffered with a leaking Mitral heart valve for a number of years which is why we are raising money for BHF
How are we raising Money?
We have entered the Peak District 100km Challenge
Starting from the beautiful town of Bakewell, the figure of 8 loop course takes a tough and varied route through Derbyshire’s finest scenery and Peaks
The 100km route ascends a total of 2450m
The Jurassic Coast Challenge
To help us prepare and as part of our training we entered, and completed the 58Km Jurassic Coast challenge on 14th May
The route was truly spectacular, but brutally challenging
You may be asking by now who is mad enough to volunteer to take on this challenge?
My daughter, Katie, has been Trail running for a number of years and participated in a number of races. The most difficult in 2018 when she completed the Pan Y Fan marathon in the Brecon Beacons, the course that the marines use for their training.
In 2020, I saw the Peak District Challenge advertised for the weekend of the 3rd July, my father’s birthday. So, I suggested to Katie we take on the 50km challenge and run in memory of my father. She said the 50km would not be enough of a challenge, so we entered the full100km challenge!!
Covid then hit, and injury prevented us running last year. Which means we take on the challenge on July 9th 2022.
I have absolutely no experience of Trail Running. My first event was the Jurassic Coast run last week. I have been training hard and hope to finish in under 15 hours.
Please support us and help raise money for BHF
